Australian High Commission Links Human Rights With World Poetry Day In Abuja
The need to raise awareness among secondary school students on their rights and abilities to become future advocates of positive change, took centre stage at a human rights poetry competition in Abuja.

The competition organized by the Australian High Commission in partnership with Afrigrowth Foundation had the twin objective, of impacting positively on the students academics and celebrating this year’s world poetry day.
The human rights poetry competition offered the students the opportunity, to speak on the ills of society and what should be done to get rid of them through poetry.
The students say they have a better understanding of their roles as advocates of peace and agents of sustainable growth.
The organizers say beyond raising the awareness among students of their rights and promote peaceful co-existence, the competition will also improve their intellectual capacity.
Australia became a member of UN Human Rights Council on January 1, 2018 and has since then, become a strong advocate of human rights principles and is working in partnership with other bodies, like the Afrigrowth Foundation to promote awareness for the development of children’s education in Nigeria.
