Borno Govt. Refutes Release Of Abducted Police Wives

The Police in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, have refuted claims in a section of the media that 10 wives of Police officers were among the recent release of some abducted persons that included University of Maiduguri staff, by insurgents.
The Police made the clarification at its headquarters in Maiduguri on Monday.
Borno State Commissioner of Police, Damian Chukwu, told journalists that Inspector Fatsuma Sale, was the only serving Police woman abducted in the ambush by insurgents, when a convoy taking the corpse of a deceased policewoman for burial in Lassa, was attacked in March last year.
Damian also said one Sergeant Bala Tiseh of the State Intelligence Bureau, was the only serving Police personnel killed in the ambush.
It would be recalled that the driver of the Police lorry conveying the women sympathisers escaped, and abandoned his vehicle with the helpless female passengers, when he was hit by the insurgents' bullet.
