Nigeria's Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo has again given assurances that the Federal Government will ensure that the clean-up Ogoni land is faithfully executed.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has again given assurances that the Federal Government will ensure that the clean-up Ogoni land is faithfully executed.
Speaking at the signing of the escrow agreement of the Ogoni trust fund at the Aso Rock Villa on Friday, Professor Osinbajo announced that Government's new vision for engagement in the Niger Delta will be transparent.
The vice president pointed out that the situation in Ogoniland is one of the most critical environmental disaster anywhere in the world.
He says that government has been meeting with the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) and representatives of communities in the region to assure them that the Ogoniclean-up is one of the critical component of the engagement of the federal government.
Chairman of the Ogoni Bot Trust Fund Olawale Edun says the signatories to the agreement are representatives of Ogoniland, Federal ministry of environment as well as some international oil companies.
Of the estimated one billion dollars to be expended on the clean-up, the first tranche of ten million dollars has been received by the trust fund while the second tranche of one hundred and seventy million is being expected.
The Ogoni clean-up is expected to run for between twenty five to thirty years.
