FG Alerts On Possible Overflow Of River Niger

The Nigerian government has appealed to citizens to desist from acts capable of compounding the current flood situation in the country.
Minister of water resources, Suleiman Adamu who made the appeal after the weekly federal executive council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, said the Nigerian government has already been placed on red alert over the possible overflow of the river Niger which according to him could be devastating.
The minister said that government is closely monitoring the situation, and if necessary, issue warning signals to citizens living around flood prone areas in the country.
The water resources minister maintained that NEMA and other relevant government agencies have been mobilised to respond adequately in the event of an emergency
Rising water levels have left many displaced and stranded in several communities of Benue and Kogi states.
