FG Warns Against Extortion Of Ogoniland By Fraudsters
The federal government says it has come to its knowledge, that some dubious individuals are using the opportunity of the cleanup of oil spill in Ogoniland, to extort money from unsuspecting people of the Niger Delta communities through the forgery of federal government agencies letters.
In a statement released by the federal ministry of environment, Nigerians were assured that the federal government is collaborating with other stakeholders, in the oil industry to fund the project and has “not and will not” authorize or contract individuals, groups and organizations to collect money from the good people of the Niger Delta on behalf of the government for the purpose of cleaning up of Ogoniland and other oil impacted communities in the Niger Delta region.
The federal government however means that anybody, groups or organization found wanting will be made to face the full wrath of the law and has called on the general public to report anybody collecting money to the police or any other law enforcement agency.
President Muhammadu Buhari had Friday approved the composition and inauguration of a thirteen-man governing council and ten-man board of trustee for the clean up of Ogoniland as recommended by the UNEP report.
