comments
by AIT / 7 months ago / Science and Tech
The Nigerian government has provided one hundred and twenty-one local inventors and innovators with grants amounting to forty-three million Naira.

Minister of science and technology Ogbonnaya Onu

The Minister of science and technology Ogbonnaya Onu said at an award ceremony in Abuja on Tuesday, that the effort is aimed at helping to effectively diversify the Nigerian economy.

Road accidents have remained one of the leading causes of death in Nigeria rivalling malaria and tuberculosis.

Statistics show that forty-five percent of road accidents in Nigeria are caused by over-speeding.

One of the innovations at the presidential standing committee on invention and innovation grant award ceremony was an android-based speed limiting device, which alerts the user once he or she goes over a preset speed limit.

Other innovations that received grants included an indigenously built grinding mill and a refractory brick stove.

The minister of science and technology, Ogbonnaya Onu in a keynote address noted that the Buhari administration remained committed to reducing poverty in the country.

These innovations are certainly still a long way from being commercially produced but expectations are high that with dedication and entrepreneurial flexibility that feat will be achieved in no time.
