The Taraba State Governor, Darius Ishiaku has warned newly upgraded Traditional Rulers and District Heads in the state, to stay away from politics and focus more on security and peace in their domains.
Governor Ishiaku spoke in Jalingo on monday at the presentation of staff of office to eleven Chiefs who were upgraded to 2nd class chieftaincy status and 22 district heads upgraded to 3rd class Chiefs.
The Governor recalled all the efforts made since the Jolly Nyame administration to address the issue of ethnic strife and to bring lasting peace to the communities, until the recent report by a committee headed by a former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Istifanus Gbana, which recommended the upgrade of some chiefdoms and creation of new ones.
The Governor appealed to the newly promoted chiefs who were all given staff of office, to be agents of peace in exchange for development.
