Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has called for more robust collaboration to facilitate the recovery of stolen assets.
Professor Osinbajo who made the call at the 2017 OECD global anti- corruption and integrity forum in Paris on Thursday, highlighted Nigeria's difficulty in recovering stolen assets from banks abroad.
The vice president noted that tracing, freezing and return of stolen assets have also proved in many cases to be exceptionally difficult for most African countries.
He wondered why foreign banks receive such monies if most routine questions were asked.
A statement by the Senior Special Adviser on media and publicity in the office of the vice president Laolu Akande quotes professor Osinbajo as saying that international collaboration is the smartest and most effective approach to apprehend and deter perpetrators and ensure restitution of stolen assets.
The vice president concluded that already commendable work has been done in creating a robust international framework for tackling corruption and illicit financial flow and the OECD has been a remarkable and affective actor in the effort.
